Double Take - 2000 - Word

Petra comes out with their 19th album. They decided to take some of their old classics and transform them into what is popular today, fast acoustic rock like Jars of Clay. This album would not go to well with a Petra fan that likes Petra older hard rock stuff; this album is in NO WAY like On Fire. There are a few songs that have some electric guitar, but it is mostly acoustic guitar, the orchestra, harmonicas, and stuff like that. But a sold out Petra fan may give this album a try. There are a few good songs on here, plus two new songs "Breathe In" and "The Longing" which are pretty cool. Pete Orta actually sings on Breathe In (he wrote it, too). But at their tours, expect some awesome rock music as well as some of these songs in a more upbeat version. Basically, this album "could" be better, but its ok.

RECOMMEND TO: People who like fast acoustic rock and modern rock, like Jars of Clay.

RATING:

SONG LIST: with DISSECTING

[1] Judas' Kiss - this song is pretty good, actually. Has some nice guitar and some harmonica, too.

[2] The Coloring Song - An ok acoustic remake.

[3] Dance - This song is not really that good of a remake, I think they should have tried a different song. Could be better.

[4] Beyond Belief - This song is pretty good, it has a nice bridge too.

[5] The Longing - Very good song, features some keyboards and nice lyrics written by Joel Hanson and also Tony Wood.

[6] He Came, He Saw, He Conquered - I used to think this song stunk. But now it's my favorite song on the album!!!

[7] Beat The System - Some drum samples, song is ok. John's voice ROCKS on this song though.

[8] This Means War - It's like a change from "THIS REALLY MEANS WAR!" to "let's have a friendly little quarrel". OK.

[9] Breathe In - NICE VOICE PETE! ---written and sung by Pete Orta himself. A definite hit!

[10] Creed - an OK remake. Nice if you wanted to hear a ballad version of this song.

[11] Praying Man - Not too bad at all! Features some harmonica and electric guitar too. Probably the best overall remake.

[12] Just Reach Out - Very nice song! But I think it sounds a little too mellow.
